ABOUT SAURAMANDALA FOUNDATION- CFAD

Sauramandala Foundation is an NGO founded in 2018 with a vision to bring about

systemic change in the lives of remote communities through empathetic, collaborative, and contextual solutions that are co-created with the communities themselves.

About the Project (CM Youth Center):

The Government of Meghalaya, in partnership with Sauramandala Foundation (www.sauramandala.org), has established 22 rural community centres for youth, called the Chief Minister's Youth Centers (CMYC) with an aim to build resilience, agency and problem-solving skills in the community. The key programmes in the CMYCs are – Self Designed Learning, Entrepreneurship Development, Sports Coaching, Arts and Theatre and a Community Library Programme. The learning is open to all ages to have more involvement from the community. The CMYCs are set to expand from 22 canters to cover all 55 blocks of Meghalaya over a 2 year period.


Expected area of expertise

  • Master’s      Degree in Entrepreneurship/Management/Education or related field      (preferred, not mandatory)

  • 8–9      years of experience of working with entrepreneurship development      programmes – especially in rural contexts

  • Strong      knowledge in developing an entrepreneurial mindset in youth, creative      problem solving for low-resource ventures and the ability to innovate for      viable ideas

  • Ability      to design and facilitate training workshops for budding entrepreneurs

  • Adaptability      to an agile, cross functional, collaborative working environment

Key Responsibilities


1. Objective of the Engagement

To build a successful entrepreneurial journey for adolescents and youth who commit to an idea in the community centers:

  • Identification      and mentoring for existing small entrepreneurs in the villages around the      community centers who can benefit from structured support at CMYCs

  • Select      and support learners in the center who are building their skills in      various domains like baking, carpentry, pickle making and so on to build      livelihoods through entrepreneurship

  • End      to end management of the nano-grants programme for select entrepreneurs

2. Scope of Work


Programme Design and Implementation

a. Create an entrepreneurship development framework approach that can be implemented at scale across all the blocks of Meghalaya

b. Design pathways to build entrepreneurial mindsets in young people in the rural youth centers

c. Set a rigorous entrepreneur identification process and train on-ground teams to support them in conceptualisation, research, product development, marketing and so on

d. Structure the programme with cohort based trainings and personalised mentorship for the entrepreneurs

e. End-to end manage the nano-grants under the project


Partnerships and Linkages

a. Landscape the current enterprise potential across the state, meeting existing enterprises and integrating key findings into the programme design

b. Develop market linkages to make products and solutions developed by youth at CMYC viable and sustainable

c. Foster local partnerships to facilitate exposure visits and learning opportunities for the entrepreneurs

d. Run entrepreneur-led platforms, incubation bootcamps and so on as part of the programme

e. Collaborate closely with the existing entrepreneurial ecosystem in Meghalaya


Capacity Building

a. Identify capacity building needs of entrepreneurs across the centers – market research, branding, quality assurance etc

b. Identify resource persons to design and deliver multi-trade workshops necessary for entrepreneurs

c. Foster a culture of innovation, problem solving and creativity in the CMYCs building an entrepreneurial mindset in learners

d. Build on-ground team capacity for reviewing ideas, providing feedback, and collating insights

e. Develop and implement the one-on-one coaching and mentoring model for budding entrepreneurs


Monitoring and Evaluation

a. Develop simple monitoring tools for the entrepreneurship development component

b. Design quantitative and qualitative measures to understand entrepreneur journeys, successes and challenges holistically

c. Document learnings and insights capturing outcomes relevant to the project
