Sauramandala Foundation is an NGO founded in 2018 with a vision to bring about systemic change in the lives of remote communities through empathetic, collaborative, and contextual solutions that are co-created with the communities themselves.
About the Project (CM Youth Center)
The Government of Meghalaya, in partnership with Sauramandala Foundation (www.sauramandala.org) and Project DEFY (www.projectdefy.org), has established 22 rural SDL (Self-Design Learning) centres for youth, called the Chief Minister's Youth Center, with an aim to build resilience, sustainability, and problem-solving skills in the next generation of the community.

The learning is open to all ages to have more involvement from the community.
Key Responsibilities
1. Objective of the Engagement
To design, strengthen, and operationalize community engagement systems across CMYC centres that:
Build strong and sustained relationships between CMYC spaces and local communities
Increase meaningful adolescent and youth participation
Ensure programmes are culturally rooted, inclusive, and community-responsive
Strengthen community ownership and collective action
2. Scope of Work
Programme Development & Implementation
Collaborate with centre-level teams and stakeholders to design community programmes tailored to local needs, focusing on skills development, innovation, and problem-solving
Facilitate community circles, town halls/Durbar meetings, and focus group discussions to gather feedback and encourage participatory dialogue
Ensure programmes align with Self-Directed Learning (SDL) principles and broader youth development goals
Lead youth empowerment initiatives that encourage adolescents to take leadership roles within CMYC spaces
Integrate local knowledge, traditional practices, and cultural values into programme design
Develop initiatives that promote collective action and stronger community bonding
Community Engagement & Partner Collaboration
Develop comprehensive outreach strategies tailored to the socio-cultural context of each centre
Build and maintain partnerships with local NGOs, educational institutions, health centres, and government bodies
Strengthen linkages between formal education systems and SDL practices
Support field teams and youth facilitators in effective community mobilisation efforts
Ensure inclusive participation across gender, age groups, and marginalized communities
Activity Coordination & Event Planning
Plan and coordinate youth festivals, sports tournaments, cultural showcases, and community events across CMYC centres
Develop and manage an annual engagement calendar aligned with local festivals, school calendars, and farming cycles
Ensure documentation and communication of community stories, programme highlights, and impact narratives
Budget & Resource Management
Develop and oversee budgets for community engagement initiatives
Ensure effective allocation and utilization of financial and human resources
Maintain accurate records of programme expenses
Support grant applications and resource mobilisation efforts in collaboration with leadership
Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
Design and implement tools to measure the impact and effectiveness of engagement initiatives
Collect, analyse, and report programme data including attendance, participation, and feedback
Prepare monthly reports summarising programme outcomes, challenges, and learnings
Coordinate storytelling and documentation of community impact
Capacity Building & Mentorship
Provide mentorship and capacity-building support to Community Fellows and field teams
Conduct regular training sessions on community engagement and facilitation skills
Facilitate peer learning circles across centres
Identify and nurture local youth leaders and community champions
Expected Area of Expertise
6–9 years of experience, with at least 3–4 years in rural community development, youth engagement, or community mobilisation
Experience working in North East India, preferably Meghalaya
Demonstrated experience leading teams (minimum 20 members) across field and programmatic functions
Strong project management skills with the ability to implement multiple initiatives simultaneously
Experience in community program design, facilitation, and stakeholder coordination
Strong reporting and communication skills across community and government stakeholders
Ability to analyse programme data and refine engagement strategies
Cultural sensitivity and strong understanding of local socio-cultural dynamics
Adaptability to an agile, cross-functional, collaborative working environment
